Financial institutions and mobile service operators: a necessary alliance
Acording to the 3rd edition of the Mobile Banking report by produced by Latinia, 66% of the top 100 financial institutions in Latin America have a mobile banking service and/or strategy. Argentina, México and Brasil are the leaders in this market, supported by their significant economic engines and populations. Nevertheless, the opportunity to reach population segments that do not have access to useful and relevant banking services–mobile remittances being on the top list- appear as concrete and substantial opportunities to both the financial system and the value chain as a whole.

This year, in its 5th edition, the conference and exhibition will be held for the first time in Bogota Colombia, continuing its successful tour which began with the latest edition held in Mexico City in early February 2011.

The Region, although in different levels of potential depending on the country in question, reunites the conditions required to grow and/or launch services, payments and transfers through mobile devices.
Acording to Pyramid Research, the number of mobile phone users in Latin America will grow by 65% between 2010 and 2015, reaching 140 million. With clear emphasis on the potential of Claro and Movistar, the leading regional operators in the Region, to develop this business. The industry expects the release of more and better commercial offerings given that the potential of this emerging markets is rapidly being fueled by the growing penetration of smartphones, broadband infrastructure and the standardization of the industry.
One example is provided by the consultancy Juniper which finds that the NFC technology market potential will reach 50 billion dollars worldwide by 2014.
